Hiding Comments

Postby dakota28 » Tue Feb 09, 2010 1:39 am

When my students enter comments on assignments, all the students in the course can see it. How do I adjust it so only I, as the professor, can see the comments?

Currently (with 3.6) Comments have two options:

1) Public - Viewable by everyone (all students / professors)
2) Private - Only viewable by the student that created it

Thanks for reply. But that doesn't make sense because isn't it an aspect of elearning--direct communication between student and professor? This is the core of my whole program. Is there anyway as also the "admin" I can access their "private replies". Do you have any suggestions?

Also, how do I send a direct message to a student?

Thank you!

dakota28: There are a number of ways that communication can happen within eFront:

1) Chatting (either one to one or group chats)
2) Forums (either public to all, specific to lesson)
3) Commenting (private to submitter or public to all)
4) Messaging (either private between two individuals or group)
5) Reporting content to Professor

What you are describing sounds like you would want to use the Messaging feature?

You can read more about it here:

Skip--thanks very much--that was very helpful! I have yet to a get reply on my other post. Would you happen to have any suggestions on this:

1. As the professor, I would like to be able to schedule emails to students weekly. Meaning email #1 is sent on monday, email #2 on friday. How do I do that?

2. As the professor, when students do not complete assignments in a given time period (one week), I would like to be able to set up the system to automatically send them "reminder email" or be able to manually send them too "all students" who have not completed for example in Week One. How could I do this?

Thanks again,
Greg

@dakota28: Have a look at the demo here:

http://demo.efrontlearning.net/enterprise

Would these be different emails each week (like newsletters?). Are they sent the same time to all users (ie. all users get the email the same time) or based on user join (ie. one week from user join, two weeks from user join). Either way, logon to the demo as admin (admin / admin) and click the Notifications icon and look what various options are available.

There are two separate missions:

1. I would send 3 scheduled emails (different content) a week to all users. This is part of the program they joined--these are motivational emails.

(To follow-up on your question on "user join" I would say in the big picture on "scheduled emails" that would be preferred. That the motivational emails are in sequence aligned with week 1, 2, 3..assignments.)

2. When user does not complete weekly assignments by end of week, they are automatically sent an email reminder.

I looked over the link you sent. Is there a tutorial to walk me through setting up notifications for these two/three missions?

4. Follow-up on previous questions around "communication": Can users create a folder to store questions to send me at a scheduled time (bi-monthly)?

Again, thanks for the support--truly appreciated!

Here is the spot in the documentation on it:

http://docs.efrontlearning.net/index.php/Notifications

Obviously not a step by step for each feature, but looking at the examples that are set up with the demo should give you an idea of what is possible.

Regarding not completing assignments... don't believe that "if then" logic exists in the Notification engine exists today (ie. if this doesn't happen then do this)

Regarding "folders to store questions"... they can save draft messages I think.. but aside from that.. not a scratchpad type functionality that I am aware of.

Thanks again! Is there some way to see each week which students did "not complete" the lessons and then send them "manually" all a reminder email?

And where the system notifies me as professor or admin when that week ends for each student based on when they entered?

Thank you!

Take a look at the Reports:

http://docs.efrontlearning.net/index.php/Reports

...specifically the lesson reports. It will provide you a high level overview of how your students are progressing. You can use that as a source of identifying which users require follow up reminder emails.
